Who we are
Berkshire Hive (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates berkshirehive.com, a local business directory for Berkshire, UK. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how we look after it.
What we collect
Account details: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password. Business listing information: If you create a listing, we collect the business name, address, phone number, email, description, photos, opening hours, and any other details you choose to submit. This information is displayed publicly on the directory.
Payment information: When you purchase a paid listing plan, payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your card details on our servers — Stripe handles this in line with their own security standards and privacy policy (available at stripe.com/privacy).
Technical data: Like most websites, we automatically collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited, to help keep the site secure and working properly.
Cookies: We use cookies to keep you logged in and to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Comments
If visitors leave reviews or comments on business listings, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser details to help detect spam.
If you use an email address associated with Gravatar, a profile picture linked to that address may be displayed publicly alongside your comment. More info: automattic.com/privacy.
Media
If you upload media to the website Please avoid uploading photos that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Anyone visiting the site is able to download images and extract that location information if it’s present.
Embedded content from other websites
Business listings on Berkshire Hive may include embedded content (for example, maps or videos). Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you had visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content, in the same way they would if you visited their site directly.
How we use your data
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Publish and manage your business listing
- Process payments for paid plans via Stripe
- Communicate with you about your account or listing (e.g. renewal reminders, support)
- Keep the site secure and improve how it works
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
How long we retain your data
We keep account and listing information for as long as your account is active. If you close your account or your listing is removed, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, unless we’re required to keep it longer for legal or accounting reasons (e.g. payment records).
What rights you have over your data
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Object to or restrict how we use your data
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
